The Sacrament of EucharistJesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him." (John 6:53-56) Catholics believe the Eucharist is both a sacrifice and a meal. We believe in the real presence of Jesus, who died for our sins. As we receive Christ's Body and Blood, we are nourished spiritually and given the grace and strength to live a life of love and service to God and neighbor. Preparation for First Eucharist is provided during 2nd grade. Instruction is given in the classroom setting through St. Theresa Parish School and Wednesday Faith Formation. Parents are expected to attend the parent meeting on Feb. 21, 2018 in the Media Center. Parents and first communicants will also attend First Eucharist Learning Centers on April 18, 2018 in the Parish Hall as part of the family's preparation. Plan on spending about 1.5 hours between 3:30-7:30PM. Second graders in Wednesday Faith Formation will attend learning centers instead of class this evening with their parent. Parents with children older than 2nd grade desiring preparation for First Eucharist are advised to contact Jane Ann Becicka, 279-4654 x 304, jbecicka@sainttheresaiowa.org to evaluate the needs and establish a course of preparation. |
