The Sacrament of Reconciliation
Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you hold bound are held bound." John 20:21-23
The Sacrament of Penance (also known as Reconciliation or Confession) has three elements: conversion, confession and celebration. In the Sacrament of Penance we find God's unconditional forgiveness and as a result we are called to forgive others.
First Reconciliation Preparation begins in the fall of the 2nd grade year. Parents will have a parent-only meeting on Sept. 20th, 2017 in the Media Center in the school from 6:45-7:30pm. Wednesday Faith Formation students will attend class as usual. One or both parents will also attend the Reconciliation Learning Centers with their child on Oct. 25th, 2017 for about 1.5 hours between 3:30-7:30pm in the Parish Hall. WFF students receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation will attend the learning centers instead of class this evening. All other WFF students will attend class as usual.
Families with children older than 2nd grade and desiring preparation for their children are advised to contact Jane Ann Becicka, 279-4654 x 304, jbecicka@sainttheresaiowa.org to evaluate needs and determine a course of preparation.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated each week from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays of the month and 8:30am-9:30am on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. The sacrament is also available by appointment. Contact Fr. Mark Neal, 279-4654 ext 301 or [email protected].
Communal Reconciliation is celebrated twice a year during Advent and Lent. Watch the parish website and bulletin for details.
